16:15 < misl> cable
16:16 < misl> for dsl I need a phone line.

16:17 < rxr> ah, nice

16:21 < misl> He wanted some kind of T2 meeting in my summerhouse. Dunno if he still wants to. Or if anyone else is interested?

16:23 < misl> I was thinking of early 2006.
16:24 < rxr> yep - that sounds reasonable ,-)
16:24 < misl> But some work should be done as well. So we first have to come up with an action list.

16:32 < misl> ack, would that be just you then? And maybe morfoh if we can get in contact with him.
16:33 < rxr> nah - valentin needs a break then as well - maybe kersin and janna enjoy the forest -)
16:33 < rxr> susan could come as well - maybe juergen and maybe we find morfoh again ,-)

16:35 < misl> jsaw: are you around?

18:58 -!- Xenos [n=stealth@80.240.209.21] has quit [Read error: 60 (Operation timed out)]
18:58 < TheBeast> last night I've downloaded T2's iso images and I saw kde 3.4.2 is included blah blah. are there any updates?!
18:58 < TheBeast> is it possible to update the packages or I'll have to recompile from source?
18:58 < rxr> depends what tree ...
18:58 < rxr> on development trunk we have 3.5
18:59 < rxr> in 2.1-stable I think we have updated to 3.4.3 or so ...
18:59 < TheBeast> those are stable isos :)
18:59 < ojh> TheBeast: I remember you saying that an application you wanted was not in the repo. You should take a look at some of the existing .desc files in the tree. Its fairly easy to write one that will conpile the program you want. And don't to forget to contribute it back. :-)
18:59 < TheBeast> ojh it's ok about compiling/contributing with the app, I just can't understand how this package manager works :)
19:00 < TheBeast> rxr suppose I install the stable trunk right now, is it possible to upgrade to development after that?
19:02 < ojh> TheBeast: I learned by looking at the desc files. I have contribuated severl packages. It really is quite easy for any package that uses './configure; make; make install'
19:03 < TheBeast> so, is it possible to upgrade from 2.1.0 to devel?!
19:03 < rxr> TheBeast: yes, with some more knowledge about t2 it is easy to build some or more bits from the trunk into a stable system
19:03 < TheBeast> okay
19:03 < rxr> but I would encourage you to get a bit more known with t2 'till you try this
19:05 < rxr> in theory you can jsut Emerge-Pkg -repository kde or just Emerge-Pkg kdebase or so from the trunk - however in practice this will be a bit much thus you could like to cut some dependencies here and there and then it is usually better to know some details to get it still built
19:06 < TheBeast> so
19:06 < TheBeast> I'll do some custom install of t2 right now
19:07 < TheBeast> I'll do the minimalistic install
19:07 < TheBeast> I wonder why I've downloaded both isos then :)
19:07 < ojh> TheBeast: I remember someone writing a tutorial on adding packages - I just don't remember the download URL. :-P
19:08 < ojh> Anyone know where that is?
19:11 < ojh> UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19:13 < TheBeast> forget about that
19:13 < ojh> I filely have the scanning code done to find all the .desktop files in the system but the "Categories" tag is used so inconsistantly that its almost useless!!!! Mostly KDE - GRRRRR.
19:14 < TheBeast> I need to buy a digital camera

19:19 < rxr> 4171 builds total, 3511 completed fine, 206 with errors.
19:19 < rxr> Error logs from reference-2.2.0-alpha-x86-pentium-mmx-reference:
19:21 < ojh> I have a thought. The metadata in the T2 repository system is much more consistant then what I am finding in the .desktop files them selves, so I wander if a script to add the missing "Categories" data from the T2 package system would be workable.
19:21 < rxr> ,-)
19:22 < rxr> the category in the .desc? or what are you looking at?
19:22 < rxr> I already found our own category too incosistent, so ...
19:23 < ojh> rxr: Yes, at least that way I don't have a massive "Uncatagorized" catagory. . .
19:23 < ojh> rxr: Too bad the FD.O Menu specification seems so abused . . .
19:27 -!- TheBeast [n=io@unaffiliated/thebeast] has quit ["Leaving"]
19:29 < rxr> well - for all the massively combined kde packages you would not have a concrete entry then
19:30 < ojh> OTOH, I may just use a .desktop->AppDir script and use AppDir wrapers for my actual menu system. Then the structure can be defined using symlinks (like the menu specification should have been in the first place). It would also be trivial to merge a system wide menu tree and local tree in te GUI.
19:30 < rxr> e.g. kdebase holds koqueror, kate, kwrite or whatever ... all in one package that only as one category in t2
19:47 < ojh> Vaer interesting and cool FUSE plugin: http://metafs.sourceforge.net/
19:51 < ojh> But I will need to upgrade FUSE to play with it . . . :-/
19:56 < ojh> Hummmmmmm . . . . This could be just the tool needed to deal with thoes misbehaved .desktop files :-D Imiaging being able to query all the names/descriptions, etc in the .desktop files when location a program. You could define a program catagory as a stored Query!
20:06 < ojh> But wait, a program launcher may be completely unnecesary! Finding and launching programs could just be a set of stored queries in an uber-search-finder-on-steroids tool.

20:52 < MisterN> hi
20:53 < ojh> Question: How come http://t2-project.org/packages/fuse.html does not show a 'postlinux.conf' file for FUSE in Trunk?
20:56 < CIA-8> rene * r13859 /trunk/package/ (1841 files in 1841 dirs): * .cache files from the actual reference build
20:57 < rxr> hi MisterN
20:57 < rxr> ojh: how long ago was that file added ?
20:57 < rxr> hm
20:57 < rxr> ah - on trunk we have no postlinux.conf on fuse anymore
20:57 < rxr> we use the in kernel version
20:58 < ojh> rxr: I'm just going by the page: 'Last modified: 2005-12-03 06:05 Copyright © 2004, 2005'
20:58 < rxr> I hope you like r13859 ,-)
20:58 < ojh> rxr: IC - so FUSE 2.4 is part of the main Kernel tree now?
21:02 < CIA-8> rene * r13860 /trunk/package/develop/ (ccache/parse-config distcc/parse-config):
21:02 < CIA-8> * fixed distcc and ccache so that utilization does not leave
21:02 < CIA-8> dependencies in packages beeing build
21:02 < rxr> yes some fuse - which version exactly I do not know off hand
21:02 < ojh> rxr: If it is now bundeled with the standard Kernel that would be GREAT then FUSE can be expected on any new Linux distro releases!
21:03 < rxr> yep
21:04 < ojh> rxr: Greate news for higher level integration of FUSE based FSes. :-D
21:05 < ojh> rxr: Metadata/Search functioality to put Spotlight and WinFS to shame - here we come! SWEET! :-D
21:06 < rxr> ojh: don't you rather want inotify for search engines? what do you need the user-space fs for that ?
21:07 < ojh> rxr: Perhaps, its not clear if the MetaFS for FUSE uses inotify to update its indexes or not . . .
21:08 < rxr> usually you want to use inotify for index update
21:08 < rxr> I think the meta fs is more questionable - or if rather a normal application / daemon is used to process / display the info ...
21:08 < rxr>

Build time (on reference hardware): 8.00% (relative to binutils)

21:08 < rxr> ^- new package matrix html code with the relative build time .cache files ...
21:08 < rxr> any objections ?
21:10 < rxr> Error logs from reference-2.2.0-alpha-x86-pentium-mmx-reference:
21:10 < rxr> 4171 builds total, 3527 completed fine, 205 with errors.
21:11 < rxr> my athlon now needs way over a week for a full reference build ...
21:11 < ojh> rxr: But I love the idea of access to the meta-search using nothing more then standard file system reads and writes - MetaFS is designed to be completely usable with nothing more then creating a text file with the query and then desending inside of meta directories under the query file. Perfectly usable from the prompt.
21:11 < rxr> time to hand this load the the dual-core Powermac with 1.5GB of RAM ,-)
21:11 < rxr> (and SATA harddrive)
21:12 < ojh> rxr: But I agree to be truy usable it needs to live upate as the files change.
21:12 < rxr> ojh: ah - yes, class utility access would be nice
21:12 < rxr> have you looked into reiser4 meta stuff ?
21:13 < rxr> btw. another moster .cache commit running
21:15 < ojh> rxr: Yes. But I think the FUSE approch is promising becuse it does not force a specific FS implamentation and if something breaks your files do not become corrupted.
21:17 < ojh> rxr: And the Linux install I did install on Rieser did become corrupt after time. :-/
21:18 < rxr> reiser v3 never had any issue on my side
21:18 < rxr> and I push the FS on many boxes over usual limits ...
21:19 < ojh> rxr: Its on an old HDD, could be a hardware issue too.
21:25 < rxr> hehe
21:27 < CIA-8> rene * r13861 /trunk/package/ (1451 files in 1451 dirs):
21:27 < CIA-8> * removed ccache from the dependencies in all .cache files - as latest
21:27 < CIA-8> ccache/parse-config would ensure as well
21:31 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/packages/libmpeg3.html
21:31 < rxr> ^- new relative cpu time needed ,-)
21:32 < rxr> http://t2-project.org/packages/bash.html
21:32 < rxr> ^- bash needs nearly as long as binutils it seems ,-)
